The Al Dhafra Book Festival 2023, organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, continued its schedule of cultural, artistic, and entertainment events on its 4th day, among which was the Sard Al Thahab Award winners' discussion of their winning works during the Award’s first edition.
During the "The Short Story Crafted by Youth Narrators of Sard Al Thahab" session on stage, attendees learned about the winners of the first edition of the Sard Al Thahab Award for the Unpublished Short Story category, as well as their notable works that qualified them to win the award and provided an addition to this art. During the session, novelist and writer Walid Alaaeldin conducted interviews with the Moroccan author Abdelrahim Selili about his story "Zilzal" (Earthquake), the Egyptian author Mahmoud Saeed Mohamed about his story "Ibn Aarous: Almataha wal-Khalas" (Ibn Aarous: The Maze and the Salvation), the Egyptian author Rania Ahmed Helal Kamel about her story "Ma Bayn Shiqqay Raha" (Between Two Millstones), and the Moroccan author Huda Al Shamashi about her story "Marthiyat al-‘Itr wal-Bahr" (Elegy of Fragrance and the Sea).
This is in addition to the session on "Cultural Journalism and the Creation of Awareness about Reading", which discussed the role of cultural journalism in building and enhancing awareness of the importance of reading. Gulf News Editor-in-Chief, Abdulhamid Ahmad, and the author and media professional Ali Obaid Al Hameli, revealed how media can play a vital role in shaping a reading culture and promoting its values, as well as how journalists and writers can contribute to creating and disseminating awareness of the benefits of reading and its positive impact on society.
The visual artist Kais Al Shaer conducted a workshop in the Arts Corner of Madinat Zayed Public Park, during which he demonstrated prominent techniques for drawing horse forms and adjusting their proportions. Additionally, and for the second time, the visual artist Meitha Al Mazrouei led a workshop on applying the decoupage technique; visual artist Aisha Al Mansoori led a hands-on workshop on learning the steps involved in painting a canvas; and the artist and photographer Ali Ibrahim Al Hammadi led a workshop where participants learned about the fundamentals of photography and how they relate to portrait photography, smartphone photography, and others. Additionally, the artist Malak Mohammed led a workshop on colouring masterpieces by numbers.
At the closing ceremony of the 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which celebrated the Caribbean culture, the organisers officially announced the Republic of Indonesia as the Guest of Honour for the 35th edition, set to take place from 25 April to 4 May 2026 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi.
